The big leaf maple just off our balcony has turned mostly yellow with these wonderful big bunches of brown maple keys hanging in clusters. Last week I saw a grey squirrel busily running in the tree with tufts of yellow and green leaves in their mouth. The leaves have thinned a bit so it’s easier to see activity in the branches.

The cherry trees have few leaves left and they’ve turned mostly red and orange. They always seem to droop a bit.

The Japanese maple had dark green leaves over the summer, but almost all of them have turned a pretty dramatic red now. It’s still quite full, though, with not much leaf thinning.

The weather has been cool and rainy with lovely foggy mornings. We’ve definitely had the heat on. This morning I saw two flickers flying around the maple tree and perched on the electric pole. They flew off and I caught one in the trees across the way.
