All Kinds of Swallows!

How many swallows do you know?

I don’t know all the birds around here, but taking pictures of them, I’ve learned a lot. Even when I can identify them though, swallows are incredibly hard to take pictures of most of the time! They’re usually swooping over water or meadows, catching insects in their enormous beaks. They fly and change direction incredibly quickly and I have very few successful photos of them in-flight because I just can’t get them in the frame! But occasionally they sit still. The other day I had the amazing treat of seeing five different kinds of swallows all in the same place.

If you know your birds, try scrolling through my pictures and naming the swallows before reading the descriptions. If you don’t know your birds, I hope you’ll enjoy getting to see most of the kinds of swallows that come to the Victoria region.
