August Club Reveal!

Time to reveal the August surprise!

Here’s the August, 2023 pattern, Storm Season Cowl!

Here on the west coast of Canada, the wind can pick up and the waves crash hard on rocky shorelines. In parts of Vancouver Island, “storm watching” is advertised as a tourist activity
to encourage folks to come here in the winter and it’s not just a gimmick! Storm season is a breathtaking time of year for contemplating the energy and beauty of the ocean, and for wearing lots of wool layers. This cowl project is double-layered to keep you warm on your blustery adventures. It takes inspiration from the ebb and flow of stormy waves on our rocky coast and it’s engaging to knit, with fun, colour-guided short-row garter stitch sections and simple wave- inspired lace and cables. This project was a collaboration between Andrea and Catherine of Gauge Dye Works.

This pattern and yarn are exclusive until next summer, so make sure you’re signed up for my newsletter if you want to find out when they’re available for everyone.

🌊 What you’ll love about this project:

  • Intuitive and engaging short row sections that don’t require a lot of pattern-checking.

  • A simple and sweet cable-and-lace section that’s just exciting enough to keep you knitting

  • Self-striping yarn so there are very few ends to weave in and changes in the yarn indicate what to do next.

  • A very pleasing grafted finish so you get a cowl that looks beautiful from all angles. You can get a bunch of different looks just by adjusting which part is showing on the outside.

  • Printer-friendly pattern with lots of helpful extras.

  • Bonus — the pattern includes instructions on how to substitute different yarns so you can do some stash busting with it too!
