Autumn Vibes

Yes, a nature post!

I’m kind of shocked it’s been over a month since I did a nature post, but this past month was extremely busy with knitting things! Thank you to everyone who’s been following along with my KnitOvation launch. I’m so grateful for the positive reception it’s gotten. (Here are some reviews.)

Even though I haven’t been sharing much photography this month, I’ve still managed to get my outside time. It’s such a vital part of my life that I’m always doing it, whether I tell folks about it or not. Here’s some beauty that Victoria has on offer right now, plus a bonus sweater weather outfit!

About my Outfit

  • That sweater is Seablush in The Farmer’s Daughter So’kapii, a dreamy, soft nubbly wool in colours that almost glow!

  • The hat is Mill Hill Toque, a hat I wear all the time, in Brooklyn Tweed Shelter. You can get the pattern free when you subscribe to my newsletter!

  • The cowl is Under the Canopy in a perfect combo of Harrisville Designs Nightshades (it’s the dreamiest woolen spun Cormo!) and Spincycle Yarns Dyed in the Wool.

  • The mitts are Double Rainbow in Gauge Dye Works MCN, though the colour was only experimental, so it’s not available anywhere.

Can I talk about my jeans too? They’re a pair of Closet Core Gingers I made a few years ago and I’ve been pretty happy with them as they’ve gotten more worn in. But over about the past year or so, I’ve been climbing and strength training a lot and as a result my hips and thighs are just shaped differently than they used to be. My measurements are actually almost the same as before, but it’s like all my curves have shifted position or something because all my pants have this saggy butt, loose thigh thing going on even though the hip circumference still seems right.

Like most people, finding pants that fit me the way I like is a huge challenge, so I’m feeling very grateful that I can solve this problem without relying on a clothing company to make something that exactly matches my current shape! I can either modify the pants I have or just make new ones.

So I’m opting to sew some new pants! I’ll put the others in storage because I have no doubt my body will change again and maybe they’ll fit in a few years.

Just to be clear, I’m not inviting comments on my body or shape, so please don’t go that direction even if you think it’s a compliment, but I would love to hear about it if you have stories about getting your clothes to fit how you like! It’s one thing that I find so empowering about knitting and sewing. The skills to make my own clothes lets me present myself in a way that feels the most like “me” however my body changes (which it inevitably will!)

I’d also welcome suggestions for pants fitting resources!
