CatKnit Pullover is here!
I Made a SWEater with Cats All Over It!
And the enthusiastic reaction folks have had so far has been a little unhinged in the best way. Thank you to everyone who loves this sweater! I appreciate you all.
I’m hosting a very informal knit along over on my Ravelry group for folks to share their projects and photos of their cats, so please join us! Here’s a very ancient picture of me and Baby to start things off. Look at his precious glare! 😻
CatKnit FAQ
What’s the yarn weight for CatKnit?
Fingering. The gauge is 31 Sts = 4”/10 cm, so it’s a fairly snug gauge in order to get that cat smirk just right. You need a lot of stitches for all that detail. I used La Bien Aimée Twist Nouveau.
What’s the size range?
34.5-71.75”/87.5-192 cm chest circumference. There are 13 sizes. The sample is shown with 6”/15 cm of positive ease on me, so it’s 6”/15 cm bigger than my actual chest circumference. I have a 32”/81 cm chest circumference and am about 5’6”.
There aren’t currently kids’ sizes because the kitties are very tall and they take up the entire yoke for the first few sizes of this pattern. It would be too tall for kids as it is now, so I’ll have to design squatter cats for a future kids’ version, though that’s not currently in the works.
What’s the difficulty level?
I consider this pattern to be intermediate level knitting. It includes working colourwork from a chart, including shaping, short row shaping, picking up stitches, and tubular bind-offs.
Do you have any tutorials to help?
Yes, there are photo and video tutorials linked within the pattern. I’ll also share tutorials in the KAL.
Is this a good, quality pattern? How do I know it’s worth my money?
I work very hard and pay lots of people (tech and copy editors, testers, software companies, etc.) to help me make my patterns amazing so that you have a super pleasant experience. All my testers told me it was a great pattern to use. See more about my design process here.
I’ve been designing knitting patterns for about 15 years and have written 3 books with Interweave/Penguin Random House, and I use that experience to bring you great patterns.
The pattern includes all the important basics like thorough schematics, approximate yarn quantities in yards and metres (not just skeins of yarn in a particular brand), a clear, easy to follow format, and construction notes.
It also includes lots of great extras like:
Fit tips and how to make adjustments
2 chart versions — one light MC and one dark MC so you can choose what best matches your project and don’t have to do any mental gymnastics switching the colours.
Numbers in the charts tell you when the number of stitches in one colour is 4 or more. Folks who have tried this method tell me they love it so very much!
