End of Summer Walks
A duck floats serenely on a quiet tide pool in front of a rolling ocean.
The last few weekends I’ve gotten a chance to walk along beaches and lagoons and appreciate the turning of the season. It doesn’t feel like full-on fall yet, but summer seems to be on its way out. Here are a few lovely things I’ve seen.
A great blue heron waits in a still lagoon.
A nootka rose hip on a scraggly bush with green leaves.
An intricate spider web stretched between greenery.
An oyster catcher looking pensively into lagoon water with fall mist and colours in the background.
I’m not exactly a birder, but I do love learning about them and whenever I see one I know, pointing it out like it’s an old friend brings me a lot of joy. Fortunately I do get to see dramatic birds like oyster catchers and great blue herons around here a lot.
Maiden hair fern with perfect droplets of dew between the leaves.
Dewy beach grass in bright sunlight.
And leafy fronds with dew on them get my attention every time!
A spider waits on its web.
A brewer’s black bird flying out of the frame beyond driftwood that’s covered in acid yellow lichen.
To finish it off, how about a few spooky images for the coming darker season? I’ll photograph a spider every time I see it, and I kind of love the framing of that brewer’s blackbird winging its way out of the photo. Please also appreciate the visible raindrops.
