Birds getting together in Victoria

Are they a COuple?

On a walk last weekend, I was delighted to see a pair of bald eagles sitting right next to each other high up in a tree. Because the one on the right looked so much bigger than the one on the left, I made up some fun gossip for myself that they’re a couple (females are usually bigger than males) and that they’re getting ready for chicks. Is this true? Possibly! They did look like they were sort of snuggling at one point. I’m not sure how much PDA bald eagle couples usually engage in, but it was pretty cute to see from the ground.

This time of year a lot of the birds have their fanciest plumage, so I was very impressed by the juncos and hooded mergansers I saw too. This post is just a few pictures, but I hope you enjoy getting a view of some Victoria birds.

Male and female hooded mergansers drifting in dark water. The female has her head tucked behind her like she’s taking a little nap.

I hope you get a chance to admire some birds where you are this weekend and get some soothing knitting time too.
