Where all the hummingbirds hang out
I found a flower garden with at least six hummingbirds buzzing around it and I managed to photograph a few of them! So behold, an all-hummingbirds blog post. Enjoy!
For curious photography folks, I took all of these on my Fujifilm X-t2 with a 100-400mm lens and 1/2000 shutter speed. Other settings varied. I kind of want to try an even faster shutter speed to really freeze the motion of the wings, but they’re already a bit grainy from high ISO. Maybe next time it’ll be a brighter day, but then you get the harsher shadows, so I guess I’ll just keep experimenting.
I love that I often hear hummingbirds before I see them and it’s so fun looking around to the tips of branches and up into the sky to see if I can catch a glimpse of them, tiny and quick as they are. If you’re not used to listening to hummingbirds, I highly recommend it. Once you realize what that sound is, it adds little moments of magic to ordinary days.
