I've gotten into bird photography

I've been slowly getting more and more excited about nature photography and now I'm at the point where I'm really photographing birds. A lot. It feels like a whole new thing to dive into and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I know it's not exactly to do with knitting (though how can you not be inspired by those feather textures and colours!) but I hope you'll enjoy my many pictures of birds anyway.

A crow is walking so one foot is in the air. Their feathers make the most remarkable surface design in shades of black. There's bright green grass in the background.

A white gull is coming in for a landing in shallow surf with their wings bent in towards their body. They've got a big crab in their beak and the bright orange of their feet matches the orange on the crab's legs.

A calm dunlin is looking at their reflection in serene water as a circular ripple radiates outward.

Taking pictures of all these birds has been such a huge motivation to learn more about them. So far I know a lot more bird species than I did a month ago, and I'm starting to discover that I can anticipate a little bit more about their behaviour too. I definitely notice myself anthropomorphizing them because they're just so expressive!

A shaggy-looking bald eagle is standing on the seaweed-covered shore in front of the ocean. They look a bit exhausted, but still majestic, while on either side of them, crows are flying and squawking, trying to harass them into leaving.

A white gull with black wingtips has plunged their head into the water and made a huge, dramatic splash. Their wings are outstretched so you can see the delicate and intricate feather patterns, gradating from white to grey to black.

It's extra cute because the dunlin is facing away from the camera and looks a bit forlorn between the sleeping ducks.

Okay, here's one more just because I thought it was funny and extremely special that I caught this female northern flicker with her tongue out!

A female northern flicker is perched on a bare branch. She's got an incredible outfit of black polka dots on white with a fancy black collar and yellow tail feathers. Her head is turned to the side and her skinny pink tongue is sticking out!

Just in case anyone wants the nerdy details about my camera setup, I've got a Fujifilm X-T2 and I used a 100-400mm lens for all these shots.
