Nature Gratitude Practice
My Natural Companions
It’s damp and dreary in the winter where I live, which suits me just fine because I enjoy snuggling inside with wool and tea. I can get outside for a soggy hike and really love the brisk sensation of being out in the cold and then being back inside where it’s warm and dry.
When the season changes, though, my energy shifts. When, after months of cold, rainy weather, the air warms up and the sun shines, I remember how it is to just be outside without looking forward to getting inside and cozy again. I put on my sunscreen, my sunglasses, and my wide hat and still squint at the brightness while my belly fills with joy at the bright white and golden blossoms puffing up the trees. I especially love just standing on my balcony and listening to the screeches and chirps of the birds in a big nearby maple tree.
The birds, the trees, the flowers, and the moon all feel like friends. Here’s a little celebration of my natural companions and the changing of the season.
The moon is nearly full against a dark blue sky and the craters and features are brightly visible in shadows and bright white lines. Spindly treetops are blurred out below.
