New life, new work!

My Work is Mirroring Nature

Spring is bringing me so much daily joy, with new flowers blooming, the days gradually lengthening, and the sun getting warmer. Even the rainy days are delightful, coming in between bright sunshine. At the same time as the world outside my window is bursting with energy, I’m feeling it myself, with tons of new work happening at a fast pace here.

Spincycle Celebration

I’ve got a new pattern coming April 25, celebrating 20 years of Spincycle Yarns! It’s such a sweet thing to still be designing with their ground-breaking yarn after so much time has passed. (I first met Rachel and Kate at Seattle Urban Craft Uprising when they were still spinning yarn on spinning wheels!) Here are some cowls I’ve designed in their yarn that would be great for their currently ongoing Cowl Girl KAL.

Gauge Summer Yarn + Pattern Club

Catherine and I are finishing up the final design and yarn for this year’s Gauge summer club next month. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been collaborating on — put May 22 on your calendar because that’s when you’ll be able to sign up for the club! This summer we’ll have three instalments, in June, July, and August. Here are previous clubs.

Secrets!

And I’m doing a big thing this week that I’m not telling you about yet, but if you’re into AlterKnit and KnitOvation and enjoy customizing your knits, I think you’re going to be very into it! That photo below is me editing a spreadsheet for this secret big thing. So serious!

Nature Photography & Videos

And of course, spring makes me just want to photograph everything and this year I’m trying out more video. My goal is to bring you some of the peace and joy that I get from being outside. You can see my videos on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Please follow me on any of those channels if you’re into them!

Andrea is standing at her desk with lots of houseplants around, looking contemplatively at her computer screen. Her desk is messy with a camera lens, yarn labels, a random toque.

View from inside a blooming fawn lily meadow, with yellow pistils emerging from delicate white umbrellas, surrounded by greenery.

Closeup of Andrea’s tattooed hand and wrist, holding up two skeins of Sweet Georgia yarn in shades of pink and sage.

Closeup of an intense yellow flower with tiny petals that look like dragon scales.

Side view of a very furry purple flower with petals peeling back. Even the spindly leaves at the base of the bloom are covered in fur.

Back lit red maple leaves on spindly branches, with bright little pops of yellow flowers.

I’m off to do my secret big thing, and hoping you all are enjoying the season as much as I am. Don’t forget to take deep breaths and savour the flowers.

P.S. Can you believe that furry purple bloom? It looks like an alien cat that I just want to pet. Perfect!
