That Fall Feeling
Sweater Weather, is that you?
My literal last blog post was about how hot and dusty it was. Between then and now, we’ve had an extended period of smoky weather that’s made me just want to stay inside. But today, the smoke cleared and the skies darkened into drizzle and I wore an actual wool sweater on my morning walk!
I feel like the animals are acting a little different too. I nearly ran into a couple of deer browsing in a neighbour’s yard next to a huge flock of juvenile California quails, and the redwing blackbirds seemed to be massing in the marsh too. The air felt fresh today.
So here’s a little taste of autumn, especially because I know knitters will be rejoicing a little at the chill. It’ll probably warm up again before it gets cool for good, but it’s a sweet preview for sweater weather.
A deer with well-formed antlers is looking right at you.
Tall, wild pink flowers on grassy stalks in front of waving cattails.
A scruffy redwing blackbird with an orange and red wing patch perches on a cattail with dewy reeds surrounding him.
A group of male and female redwing blackbirds are gathered on a wooden railing.
A yellow bulb of a water lily bud is poking up out of dark water, surrounded by lily pads in shades of red and green.
Redwing blackbirds chattering in the branches of a tree with green leaves.
An umbrella-shaped white flower growing tall in the forest.
A rustic, wooden archway draped with cedar branches and leading into a dark forest.
Your first fall sweater
I pulled on an old favourite black wool sweater that I knit for my partner years ago to go walking in the cooler weather and I’m so looking forward to wearing all my old favourites. Tell me about the first sweater you pull on when the weather changes!
