Quick Knits Gift Guide

For a lot of us knitters, it’s holiday knitting time! Giving hand knits is a special way to express our affection to the knit worthy and I especially love small, enjoyable projects. Here are a few favourites for gifting.

Witty’s Trail Mitts

This is a super versatile fingerless mitt pattern that comes in sizes from toddler to grownup. It’s also got options for an interesting motif on the back of the hand or for plain garter ribbing like is shown in the photo above. They’re worked in sport or DK weight yarn, so they’re a great everyday winter accessory. I’ve got lots of recommendations for choosing yarn, and since they’re such a small project, you might just have the perfect yarn in your stash already.

Dissent Toque

Another pattern that comes in sizes for all ages, Dissent Toque is an engaging colourwork project inspired by the later Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It’s written for both fingering and worsted weight gauges and I have examples of so many different yarns so you can pick just the right one for the feminists in your life!

Slanted Stripes Cowl

This one is meditative to knit and easy to wear. Instead of standard stripes, this one utilizes regular shaping to make chevron stripes of various widths. Use your favourite gradient yarn or stick with solids and make the stripes bolder.

The Little Dude

If you’re feeling a little more ambitious and excited about a little challenge, how about a Little Dude for a tiny person in your life? Folks who know the movie The Big Lebowski will find it hilarious and those who don’t will just be impressed by your knitting skills. This one has lots of techniques packed into a tiny project. The Little Dude has sizes to fit baby to 12-year-olds and there’s also a grownup version!
