July Club Reveal!
Time to reveal the July surprise!
Here’s the July, 2023 pattern!
The giant Pacific octopus is a creature with an incredible ability to camouflage, changing the colour and texture of their skin at will. This sock pattern is meant to invoke that changeable, underwater glory. I see suckers fading into the surroundings of bull kelp and seawater, though it can’t quite be pinned down. This project was a collaboration between Andrea and Catherine of Gauge Dye Works, the July instalment of our 2023 Summer Yarn + Pattern Club!
This pattern and yarn are exclusive until next summer, but you can still sign up for our August club, which will be a skein of fingering weight yarn from Gauge Dye Works and a perfectly-paired pattern to go with it by me! Sign up on the Gauge website.
🌊 What you’ll love about this project:
Beautiful watery rainbow gradient yarn inspired by a local octopus, bull kelp forests, and the deeper ocean.
An unusual and fun big-holes lace pattern that’s got twisted stitches to help it stand out from the purl background.
The yarn colours are symmetrical, so knitting from both ends of the skein will result in identical socks.
A very pleasing short row heel with shaping that gives a pretty braided look where the shaping happens.
4 foot sizes in a lace pattern that’s extra stretchy to fit just right. (Foot circumference: 6.5(7.5, 8.75, 9.75) in/16.5(19, 22, 25) cm; pick a size a bit smaller than your actual foot.)
Printer-friendly pattern with lots of helpful extras
Bonus — the pattern would look beautiful in a solid or semi-solid yarn too, so you can knit it again with those special skeins of fingering weight yarn in your stash.
If you love to knit with company, don’t forget to join us on Facebook or Ravelry!
Wishing you had signed up?
The June & July club yarns and patterns will be exclusive to folks who did sign up until next summer, but you still have a chance to join in August!
Signups for the August club are open now — a cowl inspired by the ocean! We’ll close signups on August 18 so Catherine has time to dye yarn and get it out to you all.
If you want to be sure you don’t miss out, sign up for my newsletter. I’ll let you know all the important news right in your inbox.
