Tropical Birds!
Yes, I’m Still in Canada
Last week, I got to visit an enclosed conservatory filled with some extremely colourful birds (and a lot of adorable mice, which I’m told were not actually invited.) I was in Vancouver and spent an afternoon having so much fun with my camera in some tropical heat at the Bloedel Conservatory. I was so delighted by their expressions, feathers, and spectacular colours, I hope you’ll forgive me that I didn’t keep track of their names. These aren’t birds that I’m very familiar with, except that I remember some from my early years growing up in a tropical rainforest.
Here are just a few of them!
Head and shoulders portrait of a blue, green, and yellow macaw with a green background.
A blue, green, and yellow macaw has turned their head upside down to look at the world from a different angle.
Portrait of a grey parrot in profile with a curious expression. The grey feathers and pale eye, give the impression of a black and white photo.
A red, blue, and green macaw is perched on a branch with long tail feathers trailing down.
Closeup of a blue, red, and green macaw hiding their face behind wing feathers and peeking at the camera.
A red, green and blue macaw from the back seen through jungle foliage. The image is all about the feathers.
A tiny bright yellow bird with an orange beak and black eyes perched on a branch viewed straight on. Could be next to the dictionary definition of “birb.”
A white cockatoo with a peach head feather and pale blue surrounding their eye nestled behind jungle foliage.
This bird has a bright orange finch-like beak, a white belly, white polka dots on brown wings, black and white neck feathers, and a brown patch on their cheek. They’re perched on a branch.
Super closeup view of black-and-white patterned and bright orange grouse feathers.
Have you gotten to spend any time with tropical birds? Tell me about them!
